Some U.S. Jewish leaders said Monday they were troubled by Texas Gov. George W. Bush’s decision to ask presidential rival Pat Buchanan not to leave the Republican Party. The leaders joined some of Bush’s Republican rivals in saying the GOP’s presidential front-runner was putting politics ahead of principle. Bush’s request came over the weekend despite Buchanan’s recent controversial remarks about whether the United States should have gone to war with Nazi Germany. Bush urged Buchanan to stay with the GOP because “I’m going to need every vote I can get among Republicans to win the election.”
