JERUSALEM, Nov. 26 (JTA) – The Jerusalem Magistrates Court has ordered that two border police charged with beating Palestinians be released from police custody and placed under house arrest. David Ben Abu and Tsahi Shmaya, who were recently videotaped beating Palestinians at a roadblock north of Jerusalem, were charged this week with aggravated assault and abuse of power. The court ordered Tuesday that they be released on bail of more than $5,000 each. The court imposed strict conditions on their house arrest, including a prohibition on their speaking to each other.
