Israeli Defense Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer canceled a scheduled trip to the United States because of the tense security situation in Israel. Ben-Eliezer was due to leave for the United States on Wednesday for talks with senior officials, including U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
