The U.S. Supreme Court paved the way for former Sen. Frank Lautenberg to run as the Democratic candidate for senator next month. Without comment, the court refused an appeal by New Jersey Republicans that replacing Sen. Robert Torricelli with Lautenberg so close to Election Day violated New Jersey law.
