One of Israel’s new chief rabbis pledged to work for a “progressive, open rabbinate.” The new Ashkenazi chief rabbi, Rabbi Yona Metzger, made the comments Monday after being elected along with Shlomo Amar, who was elected Sephardi chief rabbi.
