The umbrella body that represents most British Jews criticized London’s mayor for not highlighting the recent increase in anti-Semitic attacks. The acting president of the Board of Deputies, Henry Grunwald, wrote to Mayor Ken Livingstone to complain that while the mayor has warned publicly against attacks on British Muslims during the war on Iraq, he had not made similar comments about attacks on Jewish targets — which rose by 75 percent compared to the first quarter of last year.
