Members of the “Quartet” working for Israeli-Palestinian peace called on Hamas to renounce violence and accept Israel. “All members of the future Palestinian government must be committed to non-violence, recognition of Israel and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations, including the ‘road map’ ” peace plan, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan read Monday from a statement after a meeting in London of the Quartet, composed of the United States, European Union, Russia and the United Nations.
