British Jewish women give jewels for aid

London Jewish women are donating jewelry to a program offering aid to Ukrainian Jewish women. The program, run by the FSU Jewish Community Fund in the
U.K. and Boston philanthropists, targets mainly single mothers and young widows in Ukraine, hoping to help them earn a living wage. While American participants in the
scheme, mainly from Boston’s Jewish community, have offered capital for
business training, their female counterparts in London have donated
jewelry, including broaches and a pearl necklace valued at almost
$50,000. The organizers also reached an agreement with a large Ukrainian bank to offer
low-interest loans to women in the program.
