The man accused of shooting up the Seattle Jewish Federation office has changed his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity. Lawyers for Naeeid Haq, the Pakistani American accused in the attack that killed one and injured five others last July, said Wednesday their client has a long history of mental illness, The Associated Press reported. The lawyers said Haq has made several suicide attempts over the years and been diagnosed with bipolar disorder with psychotic features. Haq is charged with murder in the death of Pamela Waechter, 58, director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle’s annual fund-raising campaign, and with five counts of attempted murder in the attack at the federation’s downtown offices July 28. His trial is set for January; Haq is being held in jail without bail.
