Newly released documents include a claim that Israel collaborated with Palestinian hijackers to divert a 1976 flight to Entebbe, Uganda.A British government file on the crisis cites an “unnamed contact” who told a British diplomat in Paris that the Israeli secret service, the Shin Bet, had collaborated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine to seize the Air France flight, the BBC reported. The flight, which included many Israeli passengers, was seized shortly after takeoff from Athens in June 1976 and diverted to Entebbe. Commandos stormed the airport, overpowering seven hijackers and 80 Ugandan soldiers and rescuing all but three of the hostages in what is considered one of the Israeli military’s most daring and storied operations. According to the new document, Israel orchestrated the hijacking to harm the Palestinian image in France.
