Surplus parts for fighter jets used only by Iran were sold after the Pentagon supposedly had halted the sales.
In February the Pentagon sold to the public 1,400 parts used on F-14 fighter jets. The sales supposedly had been halted to investigate security concerns, government investigators told The Los Angeles Times. It is not known whether any of the aircraft parts fell into Iranian hands.
According to the Government Accountability Office, the Defense Department improved security in the surplus program to prevent improper sales of sensitive items.
