Syria said it will attend the Annapolis peace conference.
Deputy Syrian Foreign Minister Faysal Mekdad will attend Tuesday’s conference on Israeli-Palestinian peace in the Maryland capital, a Damascus official said Sunday.
Syria had vacillated on whether it would attend the U.S.-hosted talks, demanding clarification on the extent its demand for Israel to return the Golan Heights would be on the agenda.
The Syrian decision not to send its foreign minister, as other Arab participants are doing, suggests Damascus is not confident that its interests will receive a high priority at Annapolis.
