Hillary Clinton started off her victory speech in Florida by thanking an increasingly influential Jewish lawmaker.

Clinton, speaking at a rally Tuesday night in Davie, Fla., near Ft. Lauderdale, thanked U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and three other politicians who had campaigned for Clinton in the Sunshine State. Clinton won by a wide margin over Barack Obama.

Democratic candidates had pledged not to campaign in Florida, after the national party stripped the state of its delegates for moving its primary ahead of Feb. 5.

Wasserman Schultz, a national co-chair of Clinton’s campaign, was first elected to Congress in 2004. She raised millions of dollars for fellow Democrats in 2006, cementing her reputation as a rising star in the party.
