German Reform Jewry honored Jordanian Prince Hassan bin Talal with its most prestigious annual award.

The award was given to honor the prince’s commitment to building peace and promoting interfaith relations.

Hassan is the brother of Jordan’s late King Hussein and uncle of its current ruler, King Abdullah. A past president of the World Conference of Religions for Peace, Hassan has forged ties with Jewish leaders.

In his acceptance speech, Hassan quoted from Jewish, Christian and Muslim scriptures and described himself as “aggressively moderate.”

He acknowledged that some people back home in Jordan might question his acceptance of the prize. But, he said, “What do I care? At 60, all I care about is the future of our children, and our children’s children.”
