Some 1,000 people gathered in Ottawa to remember the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust.
The May 1 commemoration was the fifth Holocaust Memorial Day marked by the Canadian government.
The event, again held on Parliament Hill in Canada’s capital, was organized by the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem in conjunction with the Parliament.
Sixty survivors from across the country participated by laying wreaths. Each survivor was accompanied by family members and a Parliament member.
Last week’s event recalled the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, which in effect marked the start of the Holocaust, as well as celebrated the 60th anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel.
