The only Jewish Republican in the House has been elected to the second highest position in his party’s leadership.
Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) won unanimous election as House Minority Whip on Wednesday after serving as chief deputy whip in the House for the past six years. He replaces Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), who stepped down from the post earlier this month.
Cantor, who represents a Virginia district that includes parts of Richmond and its suburbs as well as rural areas in the north, has been considered a rising star in the GOP since his election to the House in 2000. In recent days, the 45-year-old has called the GOP no longer "relevant" and criticized his party for offering principles instead of "real solutions" to problems.
