Arab-israeli Lawmakers to Defy Gaza Blockade

Arab-Israeli lawmakers will set sail in an attempt to break their own government’s blockade of the Gaza Strip.

A boat carrying the Arab-Israeli activists and humanitarian supplies is scheduled to leave Sunday from the Jaffa port, the Israeli media reported Wednesday.

Most of the Arab members of the Knesset will attempt to reach Gaza on the boat. Arab communities in Israel have been collecting supplies for the attempt.

A Libyan boat laden with humanitarian aid was turned back Monday after being approached by the Israeli navy. Three other boats carrying activists and supplies have been allowed to land in Gaza since August.

Qatar Charity also announced Wednesday in a statement printed in three Qatari newspapers that it would send a ship with humanitarian aid to Gaza without asking for Israeli permission.

On Tuesday, Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood organization announced that it would send a group of Jordanian Islamists from Jordan’s port city of Aqaba on Dec. 20 to try to land in the Gaza port.
