JERUSALEM (JTA) — Swastikas and Palestinian flags were drawn on the walls of a Jaffa synagogue.

The graffiti was colored Saturday night in charcoal and also was drawn on the house of Jews living next door to the Beit El synagogue in the predominantly Arab-Muslim neighborhood of Ajami, according to reports. In addition, the tires of the Jewish residents’ cars also were punctured.

The synagogue has been across the street from the French ambassador’s home for more than 50 years.

The Ajami neighborhood was featured in an Academy Award-nominated film.
