JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli military investigation into the recent deaths of four Palestinians concluded that the soldiers were not prepared and made mistakes.

The commanders of the Shomron and Nachshon brigades will have official notations in their service records as a result of the inquest, Ynet reported.

The four Palestinians were killed last month in two incidents separated by a few hours.

Two of the victims were killed when Israeli soldiers used force to quell a riot south of Nablus near the Palestinian village of Iraq Burin. Two others were killed when the Palestinians approached soldiers with pitchforks, apparently to attack them, in the northern West Bank. The soldier who shot at the Palestinians was reassigned.

The investigation, ordered by Israeli army Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, determined that the deaths could have been avoided and were the result of soldiers’ mistakes and lack of preparation.
