JESNA, Wednesday, announced the winners of the Grinspoon-Steinhardt Awards for Excellence in Jewish Education.
The Harold Grinspoon Foundation started giving out the awards in Western Massachusetts in 1993 to honor excellent teachers. He enlisted Michael Steinhardt to expand the program to the rest of the country in 2000. Now, each year, every local community selects one winner. Grinspoon and Steinhardt give the winners a $1,000 stipend for professional development, and the local communities pitch in a $1,000 cash prize.
