To the Editor:
The Eulogizer column titled "Nobel Prize winner, WWII intelligence agent, AIDS pharmacologist" struck a deep chord in my psyche because the people he described were in the cohorts of my generation with similar backgrounds to mine. They are a tribute to the contribution of the Jewish intellectual phenomenon that has benefitted humanity and mankind. Will we ever see the likes of them again?
I must admit that I had never heard of these fantastic and wonderful men and their accomplishments before I read the article, and I consider myself well read. Where were their achievements publicized in the media that would allow a broad range of viewers to be made aware of their activities as scientists and Jews?
I hold the vast media industry responsible for not calling the public’s attention to their accomplishments. Instead we are bombarded constantly and overwhelmed with the antics of crackpots like Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, etc.
Where are our sense of values and importance — or does the need to sell more newspapers and air time take precedence over what really matters?
