So Kim Kardashian’s divorce lawyer is Jewish. Big whoop. But Laura Wasser is not just a Jewish lawyer, she is THE lawyer for a great number of Hollywood celebrities: Angelina Jolie, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder, Kiefer Sutherland, Spike Jonze, Nick Lachey, Kelis, Britney Spears, Anna Faris, Patricia Arquette, and Kate Walsh. Wasser was Robyn Moore’s attorney when she divorced Mel Gibson. Talk about a badass.
Now Wasser is part of one of the most talked-about recent divorce cases, representing Kardashian in her separation from Kris Humphries. She also negotiated the prenup for the couple whose marriage lasted a mere 72 days.
Wasser told TMZ: “Our office did indeed negotiate and prepare a prenup for Ms. Kardashian. Given what I know regarding that document, it is not plausible that this marriage was a sham.” That was in response to allegations that the wedding was fake and Kardashian just did it for the money (the couple earned $17.9 million from selling video and photo rights).
Wasser said the two actually planned their future together. “Why on earth would they create a document which looks far into the future if they planned a marriage that would only last a few months?”
Maybe because they knew they’d be the objects of suspicion, and what better alibi than having a prenup that “looks far into the future?”
I have a feeling we’ll hear more about this story soon, whether we want to or not.
