Instead of synagogue dues, shuls pay for members

JTA veteran Sue Fishkoff — now the editor of j, the Jewish weekly in San Francisco — had a great JTA story in February 2011 about Jewish communities using loans and grants to lure young families.

I followed up on Sue’s story with a piece in the Fall 2012 issue of B’nai B’rith Magazine that looked at whether this strategy is effective (See p. 22 here).

On Wednesday, The New York Times got in on the act, with a story focused on relocation bonuses in New York.
