NEW YORK (JTA) — Democrat Brad Schneider edged Rep. Bob Dold to win a suburban Chicago congressional seat.

Schneider, a management consultant who has been active in Jewish groups, won 50.5 percent of the vote to Dold’s 49.5 percent.

Dold, a first-term Republican in a district that became more Democratic as a result of redistricting, had stressed his moderation on social issues and support of Israel.

Republicans had attacked Schneider, who has been active in the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Chicago’s Jewish federation and the American Jewish Committee, for expressing his support for the dovish Israel group J Street.
