(JTA) — A Turkish aid group is sending a flotilla in an attempt to break the Israeli blockage of Gaza, as it did in 2010 with deadly consequences.

The Humanitarian Relief Foundation, or IHH, said Monday that it would send the flotilla, including pro-Palestinian activists from 12 countries, “in the shadow of the latest Israeli aggression on Gaza,” Reuters reported.

“As most governments are complicit, the responsibility falls on civil society to challenge the Israeli blockade on Gaza,” the group said in a statement.

An Israeli commando raid on the IHH flotilla in 2010 left nine Turkish protesters dead and damaged relations between Turkey and Israel.
