(JTA) — The phone app Fansino, developed by two Israelis, won Best App of the Year at the mobile industry’s largest cross-platform applications showcase.

Fansino, the brainchild of Haran Wolfovitz Yaffe and Omri Erez, beat out 800 other apps at the 2015 Mobile World Congress last week in Barcelona.

Fansino allows artists to connect to fans while they are listening to their music. Yaffe told Geektime that artists can identify listeners of their music through Fansino in the hopes of making their outreach more efficient and eventually creating more revenue.

“The idea is to help musical artists overcome a dwindling market in the area of music in the last few years and strengthen the relationship between the artist and his audience,” Yaffe said.

Yaffe was severely wounded in the 2006 Lebanon War. After a long rehabilitation process at the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, he returned to study at Columbia University in New York and started a music career.

Waze, the popular Israeli navigation app, won the same award at the 2010 Mobile World Congress.
