JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian man during a military operation in a West Bank refugee camp.
The Palestinian was killed as he attempted to throw an explosive at the Israeli troops at the Jenin camp, a spokesman for the Border Police told Israeli and international media. He was identifed as a member of the Hamas terrorist group.
The Palestinian Maan news agency identified the man as Izz al-Din Walid Bani Gharra, 21. He was shot in the chest and died at a local hospital, according to the report.
Reuters reported that the man was shot in the back, citing Jenin residents and hospital officials. A Hamas website reported that he was killed while leaving a mosque following prayers, according to Reuters.
It was the first deadly shooting in the West Bank in two months.
