JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel demolished the eastern Jerusalem family home of a Hamas operative who killed three in a car-ramming attack.
Some 1,200 Israeli troops and police were on hand for the demolition Wednesday in the Shuafat neighborhood.
“The forces were instructed to show zero tolerance for any attempt to harm security forces or disrupt the public order,” the Israel Police said in a statement posted on its website.
In clashes following the demolition, 13 Palestinians were shot and injured by Israeli forces, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported.
In November 2014, Ibrahim Akkari drove his car into a group of Border Police officers standing at a northern Jerusalem light rail station, then hit pedestrians with his car before exiting the vehicle wielding an iron bar and attempting to attack more people. Israel said Akkari was a Hamas operative.
A Druze-Israeli police officer and a yeshiva student were killed in the attack. A Palestinian man, 60, died days later from his injuries.
Israeli police shot and killed Akkari at the scene. His family praised his actions in interviews.
