More than $1, 000, 000 was pledged last night for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, at a conference of 75 civic leaders at the Harmonie Club.
A $5, 000, 000 goal was set recently by the college’s founders to complete medical facilities at the school, which opened in September, 1955, as the first non-sectarian medical school in the United States under Jewish auspices and which will graduate its first class next June.
George Alpert, president of the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad, presided at the conference. He said that despite the fact that the college’s facilities are “far from completed,” the school has made “fantastic progress.” He said it is now “a solid link in the chain of American medical schools.”
