An aged Jew died of shock and twenty Jews were slightly injured today as 2,000 Nationalists paraded through the city in support of 1,000 students occupying the student house of Wilno University in a hunger-strike against the Jews.
Police were stoned and windows of Jewish houses were broken during the demonstration. School children and mothers of the striking Nationalist students participated in the parade.
The strikers, cutting communications with the outside world, barricaded the student quarters Thursday and refused food sent them after the university’s senate had refused to segregate Jews in “ghetto benches.”
The Nationalist students, adherents of the National Democratic Party, had also demanded dismissal of Jewish instructors and restrictions on admission of Jewish students.
