A local lawyer has gathered 50 other persons, including students for a 10-day round-the-clock vigil on behalf of Soviet Jewry at the Isaiah Wall opposite United Nations headquarters. The protestors, who are participating in rotation, arrived at the site yesterday afternoon. They will disband Friday afternoon and return Saturday night. The lawyer, Warren Moskowitz, 39, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency the group was seeking to “embarrass the UN,” which he said has repeatedly declared the plight of Soviet Jewry to be an internal Soviet issue. That position, he said, was “a cop-out.” Moskowitz said he hoped the group’s continuous presence at the Isaiah Wall would ignite “massive international pressure” on the USSR by the UN, Secretary General Thant and delegates and diplomats to lower the barriers against Jewish emigration–especially before Passover–and to guarantee Jewish rights within the USSR and free Jewish political prisoners.
