More than 100 rabbis, cantors and educators who completed studies at the New York School of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion were graduated today at ordination and commencement services at Temple Emanu-El.
Dr. Nelson Glueck, College-Institute president, who ordained the rabbis and invested the cantors, presented honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees to Judge Horace Stern of Philadelphia, retired Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and to U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Henry J. Friendly of New York. Ephraim E. Lisitzky of New Orleans, Hebrew poet and translator of Shakespeare into Hebrew, was awarded the Doctor of Hebrew Letters degree.
