More than a thousand guests and delegates to the National Conference of Jewish Social Service, the National Association of Jewish Community Center Secretaries and the National Council for Jewish Education were present at a joint session of the three bodies held last night at the Hotel Sinton.

William J. Shroder, president of the Cincinnati Board of Education and former president of the National Conference of Jewish Social Service, presided. Dr. Samuel Rothenberg, president of the United Jewish Social Agencies of Cincinnati and Mayor Murray Seasongood greeted the delegates.

The modern trend in social service is toward diminishing emphasis upon provision for dependents and delinquents, declared Morris D. Waldman, president of the Conference, who was the principal speaker at the joint session.

Gilbert Harris, executive director of the Y.M. and Y.W.H.A. of St Louis and president of the Community Center Secretaries spoke of the impressive part that the Y.M. and Y.W.H.A.’s and centers throughout the country are playing in bringing the youth of the country to a proper realization of their place in Jewish life. Israel S. Chipkin, president of the National Council for Jewish Education declared that “as American Jewry becomes more self-conscious it will realize more and more that through Jewish education will be inspired the leadership of the future.”

Morning and afternoon sessious today will be held separately by the three bodies, the sessions functioning as a clearing house for social service and education. In the evening the three organizations will again combine to discuss programs for Jewish education and Jewish Centers. Morris D. Waldman will preside and Dr. John Slawson, research director of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Cleveland will be the speaker. The general discussion will be led by E.J. Londow, field secretary of the Jewish Welfare Board and Dr. I.B. Berkson, director of Jewish schools in Palestine.
