More than 1,000 delegates and alternates representing chapters from 200 cities will attend the eleventh annual convention of Junior Hadassah, the Young Women’s Zionist Congregation of America, which is to be held August 19, 20 and 21 at the Hotel New Yorker, Alice Bernstein, executive secretary, announced yesterday. These delegates represent one of the largest Zionist youth groups in this country, the organization having a national membership of 10,000.
Plans to provide for forty-three German Jewish children at Meier Shfeyah, a children’s village maintained by the organization at Haifa, will be the principal project on the agenda. Miss Gertrude Jacobi, of Port Richmond, Staten Island, national chairman of the Palestine committee, is to speak on the work undertaken for the refugee children.
Miss Edith Schild, of Brooklyn, chairman of the convention committee, will deliver the opening address of the three-day meeting Miss Celia B. Slohm, of Buffalo national president, will present the annual report. Another report is to be made by Mrs. Shulamith Cantor, principal of the organization’s nurses’ training school in Jerusalem. She will review the program and problems of the training school.
Numerous social activities, including a sightseeing tour of the city, a banquet and a dance, have been arranged for the delegates.
