A thousand troops were required last night to extinguish a huge fire on the Levant Fair grounds in the northern part of this city which razed the Tel Aviv stadium, the Histadruth pavilion and four boats lying offshore.
Arab resentment against the harbor being developed here in competition with the neighboring Arab port of Jaffa led the authorities to suspect that the blaze might have been of incendiary origin.
The grounds are bounded on one side by the Mediterranean and on two sides by the Yarkon River. The fair was held in the Spring but many of the structures were left standing.
