The significance of the fifth anniversary of Israel’s independence was reviewed here tonight by Rabbi Irving Miller, president of the Zionist Organization of America at a gala “Salute to Israel” celebration spun?- soared by the ZOA at the Hotel Roosevelt. More than 1, 000 key workers and leaders of the Zionist Organization of America in the New York area attended the affair.
“The Zionist movement which has brought Israel into being, is today being alerted to grave new dangers facing Israel and will work to defend all that has been achieved during the past years,” Dr. Miller said. Drawing a parallel between Israel’s struggles of today and those of American democracy in its early years, he voiced confidence that “our country’s friendship for Israel will surely continue in the years to come and that the cause of democracy in the Middle East, which is of such deep concern to the American people, will thereby be strengthened.”
The establishment of an “Israel Bond Honor Roll” by the ZOA was announced by Dr. Miller at the celebration. Announcing the “Every Member A Bond Holder” drive, Dr, Miller asserted that this special effort is in keeping with “the finest tradition of the ZOA to combine our observance of its fifth anniversary of the State of Israel with the intensification of our practical efforts to aid Israel’s growth and development.”
