Some 10,000 Jewish children took part today in a parade commemorating the celebration of Lag B’Omer, traditional festive holiday marking the lifting of restrictions on rejoicing during the Sefira period between Passover and Shavuot. The children, who gathered at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva building, heard an address by Rabbi M. Schneersohn, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who spoke from a special platform erected for the occasion.
The marching youngsters were accompanied by several bands playing traditional Hebrew songs. Some 150 chartered buses, which had brought the children to the assembly point, took them to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park for a day’s outing and picnic. The children were supervised by 600 instructors and group leaders of the 112 boys clubs sponsored by the National Council of Mesibos Shabbos, which organized the celebration.
