A demand that the United States support the Provisional Government of the Jewish state as provided for by the United Nations decision to partition the country was today made by a trade union delegation which called on Gordon P. Merriam, Chief of the Wear Eastern Division of the State Department.

The delegation, which was sponsored by the American Jewish Labor Council, also left with Merriam petitions signed by some 100,000 organized workers urging the lifting of the State Department’s embargo on arms shipments for Palestine Jews. Characterizing the recent American proposal for trusteeship for Palestine as “a threat to the lives of 700,000 Jews of Palestine and a violation of the honor of the American people,” the delegation charged that U.S. failure to support partition has “delivered a shattering blow to the United Nations.”
