The 1960 Los Angeles Israel Bond campaign got off to a flying start with the sale of more than $1,000,000 in Israel bonds at an inaugural dinner addressed by Gen. Moshe Dayan, Israel’s Minister of Agriculture, the Israel bond office here reported.
The dinner, which was a tribute to Eddie Cantor’s 25 years of service to Israel, was highlighted by announcement of establishment of the Eddie Cantor Municipal Playground in Tel Aviv. The playground named for Mr. Cantor, national chairman of the Builders of Israel, purchasers of $3,000 Israel Housing Bonds, is located in the Ramat Aviv area.
General Dayan emphasized the importance of investments in the development of Israel’s farm output for export. He said that with the cooperation of American Jews, Israel would succeed in efforts to attain economic independence.
Samuel Rothberg, national chairman for Trustees of the Israel Bond Organization, announced that Ben Paul Brasley, Pittsburgh communal leader, had bought $75,000 worth of Israel bonds in celebration of his 75th birthday. A group of his friends in Pittsburgh have pledged to sell an additional $75,000 in bonds in honor of Mr. Brasley.
