An estimated 1,000,000 American Jews began going to the polls today to cast their votes for delegates to the World Zionist Congress slated to be held in Jerusalem in December. In smaller communities the polling was completed today, but in New York and eleven other large cities the polls will not close until tomorrow evening.
The candidates are grouped in five slates: the Zionist Organization of America, the Labor Zionist Bloc, the Religious-National Bloc, the United Zionist-Revisionists and Hadassah. Five hundred election boards are supervising 3,000 polling places throughout the country. Polls were open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and will be open from noon to 10 p.m. tomorrow. Delegates will be chosen on the basis of proportional representation.
