There are 10,250 members of B’nai B’rith and its two youth agencies, the Aleph Zadik Aleph and Hillel Foundations, in the nation’s armed forces, and of these 29 have been killed in action or in line of duty and 10 have been decorated or cited for bravery, Henry Monsky, president of B’nai B’rith announced today in making public a statistical report of B’nai B’rith’s nationwide war service record one year after Pearl Earbor.
The report also showed that 20,184 B’nai B’rith men and women and members of Aleph Zadik Aleph have donated blood to the Red Cross; that $22,000,000 worth of war bonds have been sold by B’nai B’rith groups through B’nai B’rith sponsored or initiated campaigns and rallies; that $355,000 of B’nai B’rith funds are invested in war bonds; that 160 Torah Scrolls for use in Jewish religious services at Army chapels have been obtained, with 56 already dedicated; and that 47,109 members of B’nai B’rith, its youth and women’s affiliates are serving in voluntary civilian defense jobs.
