More than 11,000 persons gathered in the Civic Auditorium here at a mass meeting called to protest the extermination of Europe’s Jews by the Nazis. Among the speakers were the noted novelist Thomas Mann, Eddie Cantor, Mayor Angelo Rossi of San Francisco, Rabbi James G. Heller and others. Mr. Mann and Mr. Cantor came here solely for the purpose of addressing the meeting.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the audience unanimously adopted a resolution calling for action by the United Nations to establish a number of sanctuaries in Allied and neutral countries to accommodate substantial numbers of Hitler’s victims. The resolution also asked that the doors of Palestine be opened to Jewish immigration and finally that the administration of immigration laws in the United States be liberalized to permit the filling of established quotas. The meeting was under the auspices of the United Jewish Committee of San Francisco Against Nazi Extermination of Jews and Other Minorities.
