The sum of $110,000 was raised for the United Palestine Appeal of Greater New York at two dinners held Sunday night.
Contributions totaling nearly $60,000 were announced at the official opening of the Brownsville and East New York Division’s campaign at Temple Petach Tikvah, Brooklyn. About 400 Borough Park residents contributed $50,000 at the eighth annual banquet at the Menorah Temple, Brooklyn.
Dr. Nahum Sokolow, chairman of the World Zionist Executive delivered the principal address at the Brownsville division’s dinner. Other speakers were Morris Rothenberg, national chairman of the board of directors of the United Palestine Appeal; Jacob H. Cohen, Morris Weinberg, Morris M. Diamond, and J. I. Rudavsky.
Albert Ottinger, Judge William M. Lewis of Philadelphia, national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal, and Rev. Hirsch Masliansky addressed the Borough Park gathering.
