A group of 113 graduates of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University who completed their studies at the Seminary within the past four years received formal recognition of their semicha (ordination) today at a convocation in their honor. The participating rabbis come from 11 states, Canada and Argentina. Eight chaplains currently on Army duty are included in the group.
Dr. Samuel Belkin, president of the university, who delivered the principal address at the convocation, called for the creation of a “United Nations of the Spirit” through greater reliance of moral law “as outlined in the Torah.”
