One thousand two hundred Jewish working class families of Salonica are in danger of being left without any shelter as a result of the fire of 1917, which left half the ###### the town without shelter, aggravated by the ### town planning followed by the Governors, including the erection of a new station which has thrown hundreds of Jewish families into the streets.

Although the Government has provided for the comfortable and hygienic housing of the Greek residents who suffered through the fire of 1917, as well as for the Greek refugees who came from Asia Minor in 1922, the Jews still languish in hovels and in-sanitary huts, laying themselves open to the cruelest of diseases, tuberculosis. As a result of the town planning even these hovels will soon have to be demolished.

The problem of finding accommodation for these families is a very pressing one. The Jewish Community itself is unable to assist, for the enormous sacrifices that have already been demanded of it have brought it to the end of its resouces. Owing to the increasing pauperization of the Jewish population, communal receipts are continually decreasing, and the financial position of the community is precarious.
