Twelve-hundred Jewish refugees crossed into Austria in recent weeks, according to Minister of the Interior Oskar Helmer. The Minister alleged that the refugees, most of whom are from Rumania, were forced across the border from Hungary, to which they had fled, by Hungarian frontier police.
Helmer said that about 60,000 Jewish refugees have crossed into Austria since the capitualation of the Germans. The Minister’s figures were given in an interview with the British-controlled Weltpresse.
