A special ceremony was held here today at the Hebrew University to award degrees to the first 124 Israeli lawyers to be graduated since the State of Israel was organized. Hundreds of persons attended the graduation exercises which were presided over by Prof. Benjamin Mazer, president of the University, and which were addressed by Justice Minister Dr. Pinchas Rosen.
The entire audience rose in silent tribute when Dr. Mazer presented a diploma to the uncle of Gideon Levanon, a member of the graduating class who, immediately after taking his final examinations, joined the Israel Air Force. He died in the crash of an Israeli military plane which was hunting for a lost British plane.
