JEWISH LEADERS HERE HAVE ISSUED AN APPEAL TO AMERICAN JEWRY FOR $125,000 TO AID DESTITUTE JEWS IN SHANGHAI AND OTHER CHINESE CITIES.

M. ASHKENAZI, CHIEF RABBI OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY HERE, GAVE A STATEMENT IN HEBREW TO THE JEWISH TELEGRAPHIC AGENCY CORRESPONDENT IN WHICH HE APPEALED TO THE JEWS OF THE UNITED STATES TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR BRETHREN STRICKEN BY THE UNDECLARED WAR.

THE LATEST BLOW TO THE COMMUNITY CAME WHEN A MATZOH FACTORY IN YANGZEPOO, BOUGHT BY THE COMMUNITY FOR $3,000, WAS BLOWN UP BY THE JAPANESE, TOGETHER WITH ITS TEMPORARY BAKERY.
