The Jewish Agency announced today that 1,264 American Jews emigrated to Israel from the United States during the past Jewish year. These immigrants included professionals who were processed through Professional and Technical Workers Aliyah (PATWA), chalutzim of the various Zionist youth movement, retired persons and middle class immigrants.
In making this announcement, Louis Segal, member of the Agency executive and chairman of the Aliyah department, said that the American aliyah this year was 30 percent above that of the previous Jewish year and the highest rate attained since 1949.
