Requests from nearly 130 American Jewish young men and women for visas as Chalutzim to Palestine, have been received during the past two months by the Palestine department of the Zionist Organization of America. The applicants, most of whom are American-born, express in their applications readiness to engage in the agricultural and technical reconstruction of Palestine, and ask that visas be granted them as soon as possible.
Seventy percent of the applicants are young men ranging from 20 to 32, while the rest consist of young women ranging from 18 to 25. All the applicants state that they have their own traveling expenses as well as additional sums which they may need for their maintenance in Palestine until they will find employment there.
A considerable proportion of the applicants consists of college students. Many are university graduates engaged in various professions. There are a few public school teachers and one high school instructor of Washington, D. C. Only a small proportion of the college students and teachers speak Yiddish.
